Alyssa Curran ’20 at the 2018 Geneva International Model UN conference in Switzerland.

This semester I represented Nicaragua in a simulation of UN Women at the 2018 Geneva International Model UN (GIMUN) conference in Switzerland. It was very different from my experience at the 2017 National Model UN conference in Washington DC.

Committee procedure was run according parliamentary procedure. Participants came from many different countries around the globe. It was a unique opportunity to discuss international policy at an international forum.

Although the conference didn’t go as smoothly as I’d have hoped, looking back at my experience in Geneva I am glad that I participated in GIMUN. It certainly was a learning experience that I will be able to look back and reflect on for future interactions in the international community.
